Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lz/ was born March 14 1997. The seven Olympic medals tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast, and is equal to ninth overall. Biles is considered by many to be the greatest gymnast of all time, having won 25 World Championship medals. Joe Biden awarded Biles the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022. Biles received gold medals at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics. She also won bronze in the balance beam as well as floor, all-around, and vault. Biles was part of the United States team known as the "Final Five". However, Biles pulled out of most of the contest because of struggles with "the twisties" that is a temporary loss in balance awareness in the air. Biles was awarded a silver medal for the US team and the bronze medal on the balance beam. The partial withdrawal, the focus on mental health, safety and determination were all praised. The athlete is also five time World all-around champion (2013-15, 2018-19) as well as five times World floor exercise champion (2013)-2015 and 2018-2019) and three times World balance beam champion (2014)-2015 and 2019,), two times World vault champion (2018), and was on the gold-winning American teams at all four World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (2014 and 2015, as well as 2018, 2018 and 2019). Biles was born March 14, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. She is the fourth of her siblings. Shanon Biles, her birth mother, was unable to care for Simone and her other kids, Adria, Ashley, or Tevin. All four children were placed in foster care. Biles is the maternal grandfather Ron Biles and Nellie Cayetano Biles were aware that Shanon had been placed in foster care. They began taking care of Shanon's children for a short time in Spring, Texas in 2000. In 2003, Simone and Adria were adopted by the couple. Ron's sister Shanon and Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted their two children. Biles is a Belizean citizen through her adoptive mom and believes that Belize her second home.
